Running for a cause, the Move for Equity Community Run was a powerful call to action, uniting communities to champion girls' rights, education, and dignified employment. Held on March 9, 2025, at the Old Leyte Capitol Grounds, the event was launched as part of the Girls Got This initiative. The campaign emphasized the power of play in empowering vulnerable girls. It aimed to ensure equal access to education and opportunities, enabling girls to shape their own futures. Ultimately, the event sought to inspire collective action, raise awareness of the challenges girls face, and promote play as a tool for empowerment and social change.
The success of the event was made possible by the collaboration of individuals, local communities, and key partner organizations, including the City Government of Tacloban, DITO Telecommunity, the Traffic Operation Management Enforcement and Control Office, the Philippine National Police Region VIII, the Bureau of Fire Protection Region VIII, the Tacloban City Rescue Unit, and the Sangguniang Barangays of Barangay 25, 53, and 62. Several running groups such as the Tacloban Runners Club, Tacloban Riot Runners, and Hybrid Running Club also played an essential role, along with other organizations like JJC Waraynon. A total of 232 participants joined the Community Run in Tacloban, while over 700 participants took part in the broader March Move Challenge across different locations.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing six winners. In addition, six outstanding female runners were honored for their perseverance and determination. Among them, three completed the 3.8 km run, while another three finished the 8.3 km distance. The Move for Equity campaign extended beyond Tacloban, reaching individuals across the Philippines and around the world through the March Move Challenge. Participants could walk, run, or jog a distance of their choice—3.8 km or 8.3 km—to show their support.
The March Move Challenge had two activations. The first was a month-long March Move Challenge where participants could move for 30 days at their chosen pace, track their progress via the Strava app, and share their accomplishments online by tagging FundLife’s social media pages. The second activation was the Community Run, a separate run which was organized by the 5 AM Gang Running Club at Car-Free Ayala, which also took place on March 9, coinciding with the Tacloban event.
A group of 11 ambassadors—nine from different parts of the Philippines and two from Tacloban—played a crucial role in amplifying the movement. Some running groups also stepped up as ambassadors, reinforcing the campaign’s message of solidarity and action.
The Move for Equity campaign does not end here. To sustain the momentum, another community run will be organized on March 30, 2025, in collaboration with various running groups in Tacloban, in partnership with FundLife. This continued effort aims to further engage communities in advocating for girls’ rights and empowerment through sports and play.
With over 1,000 participants in total, the overwhelming support from individuals, communities, and organizations highlights the shared commitment to creating a world where all girls have the opportunity to dream, learn, and succeed. By choosing to move, we are taking steps—both literal and symbolic—towards a more equitable future for all. #Move #StandWithGirls #MoveForEquity
